Japanese Language Frustration-RANT! [ラ&

Sun Jul 5, 2009, 4:27 PM
I've been attempting to learn Japanese for a few months now by myself, due to not having any JP classes in school.

At first, I was kinda trying to get used to the whole "backwards" kinda thing that language has going for it, and I still am trying to get used to it. Seriously, wtf? Why can't it be like Chinese, more direct to English patterns? Why did the Japanese have to be so damn strong back in the days while China got their asses handed to them by the Imperialists and conformed to their ideals? That would have made things a hell of a lot easier..

Speaking of Chinese, you know that myth that knowing Chinese can help you with Japanese? Do you know who said that? I don't, so by any chance you do, give me his friggin' address so I can blast nails from a nail gun right through his head. HOW IN THE HELL does it make things easier?! In fact, it makes learning the language much harder, contrary to whatever that jackass was thinking. I'm always finding myself pronouncing some kana and certain kanji with their Chinese pronunciations.

Not only that, but because the Japanese language felt the need to be oh so specific, you have a bunch of PARTICLES that send your mind up the ying yang. Seriously. The one that really grinds my gears is "に(ni)". What this thing supposedly does is indicate direction. It indicates friggin' direction. Are you kidding me? Btw, there's ANOTHER particle that indicates direction, but it's more direct, go figure. Indirect and direct particles for "direction"..What makes things worse is that it's sometimes used in the same way(well to me at least) as "は(wa)" which is actually spelled "wa" but pronounced "ha" when used as a particle for God knows what reason and is practically 99% the same as "が(ga)" which is supposedly used for emphasis. As if it'd be a sin to raise one's voice for emphasis, oh no, we can't have that, lets use different words to indicate things like that.

And Kanji are a pain in the ass. I'm not kidding. I can't remember them for crap. Wanna hear the burn? THEY ARE PRONOUNCED IN VARIOUS WAYS AND CAN MEAN VARIOUS THINGS WHEN USED IN CERTAIN 'CONTEXT'. 'Context' seems to be the word used for "All chances of you learning this language are fucked" when used in CONTEXT of the Japanese language.

Kana are okay, but some of them are confusing. ツ,シ,ソ,ン,ノ. Can you see the differences(besides the obvious ones? Yeah, after months or learning they still confuse the hell out of me too. I usually guess on which is which. Katakana is still kinda shaky for me too..Kind of. What also irks me are the small little combos that you can do with them though..

And don't get me started with the various forms of politeness and such. That's what I'm up to right now. I honestly want to become fluent in this language, fluent enough to conversate in subjects such as daily common things, maybe science here and there too..but I really dunno if thats even possible due to all the mind boggling rules that this language carries with it.

Also there aren't any spaces in Japanese, so if theres a way to distinguish separate words in this language of frustration, let me know please.

*Sighs*

ラントはおわりぞ。(Ranto wa owari zo.)
The rant is fin-freaking-ally over.(I think thats what it means.."Zo" is supposed to be really rude, so I'm translating that as a rude thing here..>_>;)
